The Department of Transportation (DOTr), said they will offer free rides on Metro Rail Transit 3, Light Rail Transit 2 at Philippine National Railway Monday to Friday (except holidays ) starting July 1, 2019
Under the “Student Free Ride Program,” free rides apply on the following train schedules starting July 1:
MRT-3: from 5 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
PNR: from 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
LRT-2: from 4:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 4:40 p.m.
“Sabi ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte, maging bahagi tayo sa edukasyon ng ating mga kabataan, sapagkat education is the foundation of growth of any nation. Ineengganyo natin ang mga estudyanteng magkaroon ng kultura ng punctuality, kapalit niyan ang libreng pamasahe at terminal fee,” DOTr Secretary Tugade said.
Elementary, High School, College and students taking vocational courses can avail of the free rides, excluding graduate students, the DOTr said.
Students just only need to show their valid school ID in order to avail the free ride.
"Bakit nga ba binibigyan natin ng oras ang libreng pamasahe? Dahil hinihikayat nating pumasok ng maaga sa paaralan ang mga estudyante kapalit nyan ay libreng pamasahe," DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugado said.
Students will also get to enjoy free terminal fees when flying in any airport under the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines.
There is also no terminal fee to pay for students at ports that are operated by the Philippine Ports Authority the transport department said.
